Wedding Toast Ideas

A wedding reception isn’t complete without a toast. Aside from being a heartwarming way to honor the newlyweds, it also creates a meaningful moment for everyone present. While it is a pleasure to make a wedding toast, it can also be a bit nerve-wracking, especially if it’s your first time giving one.
You can create a wedding toast in many ways, depending on your role in the wedding, your relation to the newlyweds, and what you want to say. Consider some of these ideas:
Traditional Wedding Toasts
You can never go wrong with a classic wedding toast when you’re the maid of honor. These usually start by introducing yourself and mentioning your relationship with the couple. Afterwards, you can share a heartwarming story about your friendship or a romantic account of how the couple met. Mention something about future adventures, happiness, and love, then end with well-wishes to the bride and groom.
You can also include a quote, like the one from George Sand’s novel, A Letter to Lina Calamatta: “There is only one happiness in life: To love and be loved.” Adding classic lines like these to personal stories will surely tug at the wedding guest’s heartstrings.
Funny Wedding Toasts
If you want to steer away from mushy wedding toasts for your best man speech, try adding a bit of humor that the bride and groom will appreciate. Tell a funny anecdote, a witty poem, or a collective memory with friends and the newlyweds that will surely make everyone laugh, all the while feeling sentimental.
Parents’ Wedding Toasts
If you are a parent of either the bride or the groom, you are also bound to make a toast. You may start by acknowledging the newlyweds and expressing how happy you are that they found each other. Wish them good health and prosperity, and leave helpful advice and wisdom for their days to come as a married couple. Don’t forget to welcome the guests and thank them for joining your children’s special day.

Once everyone else is done with their toast, the newlyweds may also share a few words.
